Connecting with Nature Week for kids - March holiday specials

Exciting nature activities for kids are lined up at our parks this March school holidays! Lots of fun ways to learn more about Singapore's biodiversity!
from the Cicada Tree Eco Place website.

There are special workshops on dragonflies, night workshops on frogs and toads, and bats! And walking tours for kids at the Southern Ridges and Kent Ridge Park. As well as an art exhibition.

In 21 Mar (Sun): Fabulous Frogs & Terrific Toads! kids above 5 years will learn about the diversity of frogs and toads in Singapore, their life cycle, where they live, what they eat, what may eat them, and the threats they face daily.

In 20 Mar (Sat): Bats are Beautiful! kids above 5 years will discover just how awesome bats are. Bats are important as they help pollinate plants that in turn produce fruit for us. Insect-eating bats help control our insect-pest numbers, while fruit-eating bats help disperse seeds that contribute to our forests. There will be a bat-watching session and a “wayang kulit” (shadow-puppet show) about bats.

In a special mini-workshop 20 Mar (Sat): Fly ... Dragonfly! with Robin Ngiam, kids above 9 years old will get an introduction to the ecology and biology of dragonflies, take a look at live larvae and a short visit to a pond to look for dragonflies. Dragonflies are fascinating insects that have existed for approximately 300 million years. The winged adults are diversely coloured from reds to blues and yellows. A dragonfly’s speed and agility makes it one of the fastest and most effective aerial predators. However in highly urbanised Singapore, dragonflies have become memories. But they are still around and well, waiting for a new generation to rediscover and appreciate them.

There will also be special walking tours for kids by NParks.

15-19 Mar: Southern Ridges Nature Tour for kids above 6 years old, explore this soothing sanctuary of greenery steeped in history and home to some of nature's greatest gifts of flora and fauna. Highlights of the tour include the Henderson Waves, Forest Walk, Alexandra Arch and Floral Walk.

13 Mar (Sat): Kent Ridge Park tour for kids above 7 years old, explore one of the few places in Singapore that is rich in both historical and natural heritage. In the guided walk through the forest, learn about interesting fauna and flora, while learning all about the fiercest battle fought during the World War II.

21 Mar (Sun): HortPark Garden Tour for kids above 5 years old, take a leisurely stroll around HortPark, Singapore’s one and only one-stop gardening hub. Learn all about plants and gardening as we take you through the various Theme Gardens and Display Plots.
